I read an article up on the Toronto Star that American Express is partnering with Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix to sell American Express' new gift card - that is designed to be fee-free.

The best part of all - no after-purchase fees that deteriorates the card's value over time. No fees to check your balance no fees to replace the card and best of all - no expiry dates.

Depending on the value of card purchase ($50 $100 or $200 CDN) the initial loading price is between $4.95 and $6.95 CDN - that fee is used to produce the cards and will provide opportunities for free replacements for lost of stolen cards.

The downside of that is - the card is not reloadable and cannot be used at ATMs. In addition it cannot be used outside of Canada nor for online purchases of some sort.

Anyways what do you people think about this particular gift card?
